The last couple days of 2011 were quite satisfying as far as food goes.  Starting with yet another mission with Kelli.  This time we were looking for inspiration from South of the border.  Costa Rican was out goal, but that got shot down real fast when our search for real CR food came up empty (what’s up with that LA?).  Then, like an epiphany, Kelli stated she wanted homemade tortillas.  Now I knew we could find that in the City of Angels for sure.  If there’s one thing we do well, it’s Mexican!  So sure enough, Yelp guided us to Paco’s Tacos in Culver City.  You might think that’s kind of far from Pasadena just to get some Mexi-grub, but this is coming from two gals that will drive to Rosarito (yes, Mexico) for a lobster meal, then head right back home.  No joke.

The decor in this place was kind of overwhelming.  That just let me know that it was pretty authentic and totally worth the drive.  They first brought out a bucket of chips and salsa… WIN!  (Any Mexican restaurant that doesn’t bring you chips and salsa is no good in my book).  We ordered the enchilada plate (mostly because it came with the fresh handmade tortillas).  O.M.G.

I don’t know if it was because we were so super hungry, or the fact that the ambience had seeped into our bloodstream, but that food was some of the best I had ever had!  The swirly, cheesy masterpiece on the plate in front of me was just… amazing!  Then… the tortillas.  *Moment of silence please*  Yes, they are that good.  Not as good as the ones 3 hours away, but still pretty high on the taste totem pole.  We ate so much that we literally could not move!

So, New Years Eve morning…

My partner in crime and I planed to head to breakfast at 10 am.  Just a local spot where we know a few people working there and they know us… our “Cheers” if you will.  I noticed while getting ready that two of our other friends had checked in via Facebook (gotta love that stalker status, right?).  So we show up to Marston’s (named California’s best breakfast by Food Network) and see the inevitable crowd standing outside waiting for a table.  In true Pasadena fashion, they also have the school flags of the two Rose Bowl Game teams waving in front of the restaurant.  Our favorite waitress, “Shazam” has already put our names on the list and tells us we’re up next.  Gotta love that!  We see our other amigas as they are leaving (they tried to hold a table for us, but we showed up too late).  We get our table, and order breakfast.  I get the famous french toast which is rolled in corn flakes for an extra “crunch”!  What a way to end the year!
